Aside from what was on the Armed Forces Network the few people immediately around me were all I had access to for media. I, mostly, grew up in a foreign country on a military base listening to only what my white parents and the parents of my white friends had playing until I returned to the States. My eighties were whiter than other people's eighties. This is one of those things where I agree with you in actuality just there's nothing I can do about it. I'm neither condemning it or defending it, it just is what it is. It's the literal truth that from my earliest memories I grew up in the middle of nowhere Texas where my parents feared tornados, was whisked to Germany, probably the whitest place ever at 5, and then plopped back down into the United States at 9 years old at the very end of the 80s and all throughout that point was only around white people who watched and listened to mostly white people. You can continue to be bewildered at it but, again, it's not something I can change, it's in the past. But that is how I grew up, I can't change that nor could I change it then, or even be expected to. It's not how I think kids should grow up. I admit I had a completely segregated, I don't even mind if you call it racist, childhood.
